Compared to a real grass tennis court, artificial grass is an extremely low maintenance option. But that doesn’t mean that you can do absolutely no work and assume it will still be fine to play on week in, week out. If you’ve got a synthetic grass court there are a few things that you can do to maintain it, so that the surface retains its characteristics and will have a long lifespan.
Regular brushing
Firstly, it is important that you should brush and sweep your artificial grass on a regular basis – ideally once a week. This is important for a number of reasons. It keeps the infill evenly distributed across the court which ensures you’re getting the most natural recreation of real grass that is possible. Additionally, sweeping regularly will get rid of things that shouldn’t be on the court such as leaves and other general detritus.
Removing debris
It is also important to note that while sweeping and brushing regularly will get rid of debris, you should make sure that any time you notice something on the court that could be there, you need to remove it as soon as possible. If you see leaves, pine needles or other materials on your court you should immediately get rid of them.
Weed and moss killer
Even though this is artificial grass, weed and moss can still grow on the surface. If it is left to spread it can begin to cause serious problems with you court, making it difficult to play on. It is a good idea to apply weed and moss killer once or twice a year just to keep that unwanted growth in check. This is more commonly a problem if your court is in a shaded area.
